Violations in sports betting brings imprisonment for Gary Kaplan

Yet another instance of online gambling cheating becomes evident with that of the case of Gary Kaplan. He happens to be the head of the sports betting site – the Bets On Sports.com. He was found guilty in misusing his gambling system online, Gary has been sentenced to prison for 51 months.

moneyGary’s site BetsOnSports was once known as online gambling dynasty that was spreading its roots rapidly all over the internet. Until when the case of malfunction came in front, Kaplan had been a successful online gambling operator targeting the US customers.

Passing the judgement, the Justice Department said that Gary has been given a total of 51 months  imprisonment by the US judge. However, this case stands significant in many ways. It is one case of  prison term which is found to be maximum and probably had never been sentenced to any other casino operator before.

This sentence of the head of internet sports betting site Bet On Sports also stands maximum under the terms of the ’shaky plea arrangement’. In actuality, Kaplan had been pleaded guilty in the month of August after spending more than 2 years in jail. His arrest took place in March 2007.

In an agreement with the US government, the specified sentence of 41 to 51 months also included a forfeiture totaling to $44 million. The government is quite sure that the earnings of Kaplan came from his illegitimate gambling outfit. As a result, the site of Gary- Bet On Sports was taken out of business by the US government in the year 2006. Subsequently, players who were signed up with the site lost close to $20 million.

In his note, Kaplan has agreed of his misdoings. He also agreed that he had broken the US law by making US customers his main target to place bets at his site.
