Australian Government to review rules on online gambling

The Australian authorities have come up with a new plan to maintain the gambling sector of the country. This step of Australian government is directed towards minimizing outflow of AUD700 million per annum to other country through betting online.

Within the territorial limits of Australia, players are allowed to wager online on sports betting and horse racing. However, as per the present legislation the local organizations are forbidden to set up internet gaming operations that include roulette, poker or any other type of a casino game.

In a new study conducted by the Productivity Commission, an independent advisory and research body, some recommendations were forwarded for betterment. In this study, the Commission has recommended that all restrictions on the internet gaming industry have to be relaxed so as to allow better regulations on this growing sector.

The Commission also focuses on the fact that in spite of the present restrictions on the domestic operators, the Government of Australia had very little power to prohibit foreign suppliers. This report also indicates the fact that the online bettors were also being driven into hands of some of the potentially unregulated operators.

The report concluded with a note that the present ban on the local vendors had restricted the growth of the casino industry all over Australia. On the other hand, opening up the sector would be increasing more competition, ensuring a safer and better online service for consumers.
