Harrah’s Casino is very interested in acquiring the casinos of Crown Entertainment in Macau. The two casinos of Crown in Macau are a joint venture and according to sources Harrah’s casino is expected to offer US$ 600 million to Crown for them. Till date the management of Melco Crown Entertainment is James Packer. It has also been reported by our sources that Harrah’s Casino is very keen to acquire 32% stake of Crown’s Macau casinos.

The two casinos in which Harrah’s casino is extremely interested are:

1. 1. City of Dreams – The estimated valuation of this Macau casino is US$ 3 billion
2. 2. Altira Macau – The estimated valuation of this Macau casino is US$ 1 billion

The target areas of both these casinos are mentioned below:

City of Dreams concentrates on VIP high rollers, Table games and video poker machines. They have a total of 1293 poker machines and 467 tables. On the other hand, Altira doesn’t concentrate on some particular gambling games. Rather their target audience are mass market bettors.

At the end of Thursday trading, the stock prices of Melco Crown rose by 6% and reached US$ 3.58. This happened after the acquisition proposal of Harrah was published by a Californian Broking Firm called Sterne Agee. Brokers are very much upbeat about this stock and expect it to reach the target price of US$8.50.

The shares worth 38.8m were transferred by Dikshit through book-building method at 270p. The selling of such large amount of shares brought down the points of the firm from 15.7p to 277.8p. As stated by sources the proceeds of the trade will be donated to the Kusuma Trust.

Anurag Dikshit has been active in the online betting world and this sales turns out to be the second deal in the last four months. Last October he acquired around £188m through a share sale. The deal totaled his sales of shares to £700m. However, it seems that the billionaire is more interested in charity, granting Kusuma a whopping amount of £500m.

The sudden decision of Dikshit selling off the shares comes chiefly due to the unstable state of PartyGaming. Talks are around of PartyGaming going in for a merger due to certain alterations in the US legislation. The future of the enterprise is certainly at doldrums with the Gibraltar-based tycoon, the founder of the company taking a formal exit.

Jim Ryan, chief executive, stated last week that merger plans are around with PartyGaming and is likely to be taken over by Austria’s Bwin, the rival betting firm. The deal might conclude at £2bn. Moreover, the firm is eagerly awaiting the decision of the US government legislation on internet gambling. In 2006 internet gambling was banned by the Bush administration, but then the Obama administration is likely to lift it.

Last week at United States two developments took place in relation to online gambling law.

After a long wait the HR 2267 – the bill introduced in May 2009 by Representative Barney Frank that wishes to legalize, tax and regulate online gambling of the US citizens – is scheduled for committee vote. However, the bi-partisan support seems to be unrealistic and even if the voting does take place it will be a more along the party lines. Out of 65 Representative supporters, 4 are only Republicans while the Democrats are in majority. The UIGEA rule will be in effect if the bill fails to become a law before 1^st June, 2010.

The disappointment continues with the Kentucky domain name seizure case. The judgment given by the Kentucky Court of Appeals went in favor of the holders of the domain name and iMEGA. In spite of that the Commonwealth of Kentucky appealed against it at the Kentucky Supreme Court and the case was heard in 2009 October. The order was expected to be released last week, however, according to Joe Brennan Junior, iMEGA chairman, no dates are listed for the month of February. The court is too busy to hand down any decision before 18^th of March (the earliest possible date).

A favorable decision is expected by the iMEGA. Even if the order is not favor, the domains will simply change their name and continue to operate. However, the biggest blow to the online gambling world that happened is due to the Kentucky domain case is Microgaming’s withdrawal from the American market.
