Tuesday was expected to be a great day for online gambling community, but that did not come out true due to some unavoidable circumstances. The whole gambling community apprehended that Tuesday will come out as a fruitful day for some promising alterations to United States laws concerning internet gambling. Unfortunately, such optimistic news has been placed to a halt till Wednesday due to lengthy bill negotiations and lunch recess.

Sources revealed that Representative Frank, projected three bills including Consumer protection, Enforcement Act and Online gambling regulation much in advance in the running year, but somehow due to the domination of economic recession in the Finance Committee, it remained under wraps. But now with the normalcy of the situation, Frank again focused on the online betting bill previous week. At the hearing of the bill, a handful of supporters and oppositions voiced their concerns and approval over the planned legislation.

Frank’s bill was likely to be discussed and nominated on at Tuesday’s House Finance Committee session. The two bills somehow have been put on hold as the gambling bill took up most of the time. In addition, it was due to lengthy lunch break, the bill negotiations did not take place. 

Well, according to the information of CGW, it has been known that majority of the spotlight of the decision on Wednesday shall be centered on license grant of online betting companies. A band of lawmakers who are in support of regulated online betting in the nation are found strictly in opposition to delivering licenses to the sites like Full Tilt Poker & Party Poker. So, this can be taken for sure that the online gambling bill will be the prior issue, to be raised as soon as the session starts on Wednesday. 

Barney Frank was leading the crucial House Financial Services Committee held today where his measured bill regulating online gambling was tabled & passed. A voice vote openly accepted the internet gambling bill, but a rotate call recording the voting method of committee members will take place this afternoon at the request of high positioned Republican Spencer Bachus who also happens to be a leading opponent of casino games.

Earlier, the House Financial Services Committee members had debated over the proposed amendments to the initial bill several times & given nod to few that were immediately included in the bill. While most of the committee members were backing the bill, some members like Peter King were trying to suggest clauses that treat all sorts of online games & sports betting as illegal. This time, Frank was wise enough to tease the members by commenting on the NFL’s apprehension that US population may soon start to enjoy sports betting without any extra language & got the bill approved easily.

Gary Perters, a committee member from Miichigan encouraged the bill & drew attention of the House of Financial Services Committee towards the apex bodies such as state lotteries, tribal casinos who had already been omitted from UIGEA bill on language basis & wanted Frank to exempt them in his regulation bill in the clause H.R. 2267. Bachus vehemently opposed the bill & said that gambling rules should be same for all type of online gambling, but this could not prevent the amendment from getting approved.

Mary Kilroy, a member from Ohio recommended for keeping the authorized casino operators under control & restricting their advertisements on online betting. She expressed concern over materialistic ads targeted at new gamblers, and requested that unwanted marketing should be curbed. The committee also granted it.

Although the original online gambling bill includes phrases giving the states the freedom to accept or reject the bill, Bachus proposed the gambling law should rather make states to get involved especially those who are still under the effect of the UIGEA gaming ban. This attempt failed to see any result.

Bachus also predicted a hand of powerful & influential overseas gambling groups who want to utilize this bill in their own favor. However, he did not utter a word about his own support for the radical evangelist groups who may try to use the impending rotate call to choose targets for re-election purpose.
